At Jukkasjärvi Vildmarksturer, safety, quality and care for both our guests and the dogs we use are at the heart of our business. Rooted in a solid safety culture, we offer snowmobile tours and dog sledding tours where professionalism and safety are at the center. By combining experience, training and a passion for the wilderness, we create unforgettable and safe experiences for all our guests. Here's a closer look at how we manage the safety, quality and well-being of everyone who takes part in our tours.
Based on safety and experience
Mats Rullander, JVT's founder, has 35 years of experience as a former security manager in the Swedish Armed Forces and has adapted the military's rigorous security procedures to our operations. With weekly internal checks and external inspections, including fire safety, environmental issues and health and safety, we ensure that all aspects of our operations are of the highest standard. Our philosophy is simple: nothing must happen. This is achieved through continuous training and strict procedures.
Education and professionalism
Our guides are well trained and experienced. Today we have 196 years of experience in the company on the 22 employees we have, which is an average of nine years. The guide with the longest experience with us has 18 years of experience with over 260 completed weekly trips to the mountains. In terms of time, this is a lot and more than any other company in the industry can show. With annual training in, among other things, CPR and cold and ice knowledge, our guides are also well prepared to handle all possible situations. Local knowledge and practical experience ensure that each guide can provide a safe and memorable experience for guests.

Care and safety during dog sledding
The dog sledding tours offer a unique opportunity for our guests to interact with our four-legged athletes. Guests are actively involved in preparing their dogs, under the supervision of the guide. The dogs' well-being is a priority and their health is monitored by the owners in cooperation with Lapland Animal Clinic. The dogs are rotated regularly to ensure adequate rest and their performance and well-being are logged daily in a database. During longer tours, any injured dogs are taken care of and replaced if necessary.
Safety procedures for snowmobile tours
The safety of our snowmobile tours begins before the tour starts. All participants sign a safety document and receive clear instructions from the guide. Helmets are mandatory and the snowmobiles are never older than three years. The snowmobiles are regularly serviced by a dedicated member of our staff who is responsible for machine maintenance. In case of technical problems during a tour, the guide will notify the office and the problem will be solved on the spot.
In addition to prioritizing safety and quality, JVT also works to reduce its environmental impact. By using modern machinery, efficient maintenance and responsible practices, the company helps to preserve the unique nature on which their business is based.

Equipment and preparedness
Each tour is equipped with what we know from experience to be essential safety equipment. For longer tours, satellite phones are provided, while for shorter tours in the forest country we rely mainly on cell phones. The guides always carry first aid kits and tools to repair sleds or scooters if necessary. Thanks to their experience and preparedness, the guides can quickly and effectively deal with unexpected situations.
Quality through transparency and documentation
We at Jukkasjärvi Wilderness Tours work with full transparency and document everything from small incidents to major events. By learning from past experiences, we ensure continuous improvement and high quality in all tours. Guest feedback is an important part of this work and open communication within the team creates a strong foundation for success.
When you book a tour with us, you can expect the highest level of professionalism. Our long experience and dedication to quality make every experience unique. Whether it's a snowmobile ride through the sparkling winter wonderland or a dog sledding trip under the Northern Lights, you can be sure you're in safe hands.
